Path of Exile Item Upgrading
In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the most effective ways to upgrade your gear without relying upon large-ticket drops or trade. This article will teach you how to upgrade your items.
Upgrading equipment grants a bonus to the item’s base stats. This bonus scales based on the rarity and quality of the upgrade component.
Components
Upgrade components are the things that make your weapons and armor more effective. You can get them from the destruction of enemies, finding them in spheres of items or purchasing them from karma sellers. You can also salvage them from equipment containing the components or through high-tier salvage kits such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components aren’t destroyed when you remove them from an item.
The main function of upgrade components is to enable an item level upgrade to be upgraded however, they also serve other functions. They can be used to increase the quality of an upgradeable item, or they can be used to increase the experience gained by upgrading an existing weapon or piece of gear. They can also be made to give additional bonuses. For example, a created glyph can increase the chances of upgrading its target, whereas an upgrade boost will boost the defense or attack attribute of a weapon or armor.
You can bind an upgrade template to an item upgrader kit by selecting it from the edition GUI. This will display an upgrade component list that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench when selecting an upgrade template. In either case, the item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components have been collected.
Each component has a unique experience multiplier. This determines the amount of experience an item will gain when upgraded with that component. For instance, organic components have a a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones. You should upgrade organic components first until you reach the next rank in the weapon or equipment and then switch to the mechanical upgrades.
Each item has an upgrade maximum number that is available for. The number of upgradeable items is determined by their upgradeable rank, and the kind of upgrade they can get. For example, the highest possible weapon upgrade is a tier 10 weapon. The most commonly used upgrade is a gun of tier 6 and a armor upgrade of tier 5.
Sets
A set is a collection of items that have a bonus. Each item level upgrade in the set can be upgraded at least one time, and each upgrade boosts its guaranteed bonuses. When you first upgrade an item, its initial stat will be +1. After subsequent upgrades, the primary stats are boosted even further (for instance the +1 bonus for 12+/13+/14+) and every time an item is upgraded, one of its stats will increase randomly.
Upgrades can also boost a weapon’s damage base. This could be crucial for certain builds. However, weapons are not upgraded to have a greater maximum defense roll than their normal base. Upgrades can be a great way to improve the value of a set and unique items, but it’s important to note that they might not be superior to a high-level runeword in any build.
If the item you’re upgrading has a guaranteed bonus, it can be rerolled once and the guarantee will reset to 0. The same amount of power die is used to roll an item as it would be to increase its level. However, the new item has different bonuses. Upgrades can be made at the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine. To upgrade an item you will need the appropriate amount Minerals and Erons, as well as a power dice of each type. These are available at the crafting table or in the Ultra Collector, and are available for purchase with Gold. The NPC will also offer an additional reward for every tier that is completed of the upgrade process. This reward can be rerolled one time with the same materials as original item.
Rerolling
If the player has enough tokens for rerolling, they can play rerolling any item they have acquired during the game. If an item is rerolled, it will be replaced by a level 1 version in another set. Reroll tokens can be purchased in the shop for a small sum of in-game currency. They are not refundable. The new item will offer the same extra bonuses as the previous one, but the stats will differ.
Players can change the identity of equipment in addition to rolling it again by interacting with an upgrader NPC. This will change the identification from a weapon to armor or vice versa, while keeping its basic stats and required attributes. The change will be permanent and affect all characters who own the equipment.
Players can also increase the item level of any equipped device by obtaining upgrade components and interacting with the upgrader NPC of the item. This will cost a set number of crests and Valorstones dependent on the upgrade track and item kind. Each step will add an additional 5% of damage to weapons.
Upgrades can increase the effectiveness of an item, however they can also reduce the quality of an item. Therefore, it is important to keep both in check. Some items are not worth upgrading, while other items require upgrading to maximize their potential. For example one player might wish to upgrade a piece of breakpoint armor that has an interesting modifier (% chance to block or FHR) to see what it can be.
Rerolling is a popular practice in Genshin Impact and other gacha-based games. People use it to gain access to a character or weapon they cannot otherwise get. Getting these items can be costly and time-consuming and the RNG gods do not always want to play ball. The only other options are to spend money or grind a lot. Rerolling is extremely popular in Genshin Impact.
Leveling
When upgrading an item you can pick to level up the weapon or armor. However, this feature does absolutely nothing in the current game. I believe that this feature was designed to add some value to rare and expensive items. However, since most items are replaced quite quickly, and can only be leveled up one level, you’ll typically replace it before it is too old. It’s not worth it to level items that have gem sockets as the power of the gem will outweigh the higher ilvl that comes with the upgrade.
You will see a small box when you click the upgrade option for an item. It will show the template for the item, its crest, and the cost of Valorstone to increase the item upgrades‘s level. Armor and weapons will have different costs, with the former usually being more expensive. The upgrade template outlines the statistics that will be added to the upgraded item. It will also list its current ilvl.
The crest and Valorstone costs are calculated by analyzing the item’s current ilvl and the upgrade template. The ilvl is also decreased by the upgrade templates reduction percentage for lvl. For instance, a weapon with an increase of 8% will decrease its count by 8-8 percent.
In addition to the increase in ilvl base the item will also be upgraded in other stats such as critical strike damage, damage from PvE and dodge, block and parry rating. Those increases are also dependent on the upgrade template.
The amount of damage and defense that the item will receive as it gets leveled up can be seen below the upgrade cost and decrease percentages in the upgrade template window. All weapons and armor apart from practice equipment gain these stats upon leveling up. The value of these additional stats will be dictated by the market, with a perfectly perfectly rolled piece of armor or weapon is able to command more in trade value than unupp’d versions. The same applies to other armor pieces, such as tiaras and circlets.
